Chrysanthemum symbolizes longevity, and is the official symbol of the Imperial Family. The mining and carving of the 270 million year old chrysanthemum stone in the YangZi Valley only began in the year 1996. However, the availability of this unusual stone is greatly limited as the mining and carving will only continue until the waters behind the Hunan Dam are released in the year 2009 submerging the valley.
Chrysanthemum stone is believed by some people to helps us to experience our own passage of life in the way the petals of a flower unfold: a process in which change, rather than being unsettling and disruptive, is a flowing, harmonious journey.
